Black boys are an endangered species.

That is the line that popped into my head when I wanted to write about my son and the battles I had to enable him to fully develop into the man he has become.

The fire within fuelled the creation of the poem I Know You Parts 1 to 4 which is from my poetry collection called Original Soundtrack. On a good day, the poem takes 15 minutes to perform. An emotional rollercoaster that many black people have come up to me afterwards saying how much they connected with the piece and how it moved them.

When I got the opportunity to make a short film, I Know You was the story I wanted to tell.

The 15-minute opus on the page became 5 minutes on screen.

I wrote the music under my Domineeky alias.

Here it is, in all its glory. I am proud of what I’ve achieved with this.
