One Sunday in August 2024, the terraced streets of central Middlesbrough were at the centre of national and international attention.
That afternoon, what was advertised as a peaceful protest turned into riots, with hundreds of masked people attacking businesses and livelihoods in one of the city’s most diverse areas.
They lit fires, set cars alight, smashed windows, set up roadblocks to let ‘whites only’ pass, and clashed with the police.
The impact of that day can still be felt.
Not just in the cracked windows and debris on the streets, but in the deeper fabric of the community.
Everybody has concerns about the place they call home.
