Having watched a lot of American immigrant comedians recently on Netflix and BBC. It appears to me that the vast majority spend years denouncing their heritage and culture to try to fit in at school, then make a career of it, taking their culture bashing to the stage.
Mocking the accents of their cousins etc.
I understand trying to show a window on another world but a lot of it grated on me.
This must be a vicious cycle for comedians when denigration becomes livelihood and they can’t do anything else. Or nothing else pays as well.
Jokes destroying the very well that their inspiration is coming from in the first place.
Maybe its something to do with comedians wanting to be loved.
Maybe I’m the problem.
I’ve just never wanted to be loved that much.
